Arnie Finds Benefits to Meat Free Diet

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the latest famous faces to get behind going ‘part-time vegan’ in order to save the planet in 2016.

The 68-year-old Austrian-American famously played The Terminator with an incredibly defined muscular physique in the film of the same name, and believes that looking good and getting fit doesn’t necessarily require the protein sourced from meat.

He told the BBC: “We don’t want to take people’s choices away. Luckily we know you can get your protein source in many different ways.

"I have seen many body-builders and (weight) lifters that are vegetarians and get strong and healthy. He went on to say that he knew “Many successful body builders (that) avoided meat”

Emissions associated with meat-eating are causing increasing concern, it’s estimated that it takes between 3kg and 10kg of vegetable protein to produce 1kg of meat. Emissions from farming, forestry and fisheries have nearly doubled since the 1960s and it’s anticipated that they will climb by a further 30% in the next 35 years.

Schwarzenegger believes that one main issue is “that 28% of the greenhouse gasses come from eating meat and from raising cattle and all of those things.”

While all Quorn products are Meatless and Soy Free, they are made with Mycoprotein™ which is high in protein and fibre and low in saturated fat. Plus Quorn now has a Vegan range of products available. Quorn not only helps consumers to eat less meat, but in so doing, helps consumers to eat more sustainably with a lower impact on the planet.

And whilst Schwarzenegger accepts that it’s not an overnight decision to cut meat from your diet, he believes that you can make small changes which can have an overall impact.

He said: "My friend James Cameron (director of The Terminator films) recommends stop eating meat... I think that's a good idea but people won't buy in. People will buy in to stop eating meat one or two days a week, or something like that - you have to start slowly. It's a very big challenge but it doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.”
